Call her San, Sanu or simply Sania Mirza, this charming tennis star is a favourite with people of all age groups. She was born in Mumbai on 15th November 1986 to Nasima and Imran Aziz Mirza.

According to this Scorpion “It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice” Her biggest goal in her life is “To be the best tennis player I can, more importantly to be a better person”

The most important person in Sania’s life is her mother, who has been a friend to her for the last 22 yrs. Her father and coach gave her a tennis racket and the inspiration to play tennis at the age of six.

Even at this age it is not early to call her an expert at the game as she bagged the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2005 for the year 2004. By the end of 2005 she was ranked 42, the highest ranked tennis player ever from India. In 2009 she became the first Indian woman to win the Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.
